Shelisa York, MPC Utah Court-Rostered Mediator
Shelisa York has a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning over 25 years working with the public in social work, courts, and regulatory compliance fields. She has a master’s degree in professional communication, bachelors degrees in both criminal justice and psychology, and more importantly understands the facets of conflict and resolution. Shelisa guides the mediation process as a neutral third party aiming toward the best results for all involved parties.
As a Utah Court Qualified Mediator, she is compassionate and understanding, but is also a straight shooter who does not want to waste anyone’s time. She does this work because she loves to see parties leave mediation feeling good about their path forward and has seen many relationships heal through the process. She also volunteers her time as a mediator for small claims mediations spanning numerous issues.
What is one thing people should understand about mediation? You can use mediation for anything; it is not only for cases pending court hearings. You can use mediation to resolve a variety of issues that are not going to court or where you want to avoid going to court (adult guardianship, youth guardianship, parent/teen conflict, marriage issues (to avoid divorce!), landlord/tenant issues, employer/employee, land and property disputes, etc. She encourages you to explore mediation prior to filing anything into the expensive court system as many issues can be resolved with her help.
She understands that people have jobs and lives so she does make herself available in the evenings, and all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weekend mediation in Utah is possible here.
Other info: Shelisa is also an artist in her spare time and enjoys remodeling, camping, and spending time with her family. She is a lifelong learner and lover of law, justice, and equality for all.
